You didn't deserve to be shouted at as a child. Your family didn't know better and that was the way things were done. There's new science now - we know better. We know that children's brains are underdeveloped and we know their behaviours are a cry for help - not a manipulative attempt at pushing all your buttons.

NO PARENT IS PERFECT and we're all going to end up shouting at one time or another because we're constantly reparenting ourselves as we learn to respond respectfully. If you're trying - just know that you're doing a great job. It's incredibly hard to stay calm when your own nervous system is triggered. We're all learning.
