I’m singing a familiar song and have chosen an action that I know Etta can do. I’ve modelled the action that keeps me singing - tapping the tray.

Then I’m pausing and waiting expectantly for her to tap, which I reward by continuing to sing.

She’s learning that her actions (cause) have an effect on the game and that she can partake in this turn taking interaction with me to keep things going.

This is communication! It’s turn taking, it’s imitation, it’s eye contact, it’s gesturing, it’s connecting through music.
