How to use Routines to Teach new Language

Routine are magic for language learning.

We play this game every day where I take her dummy (dody) and she grabs if back again.

This has lead to her initiating the game herself when she finds her dummy and it’s evident she now understands the word ‘dody’ and she will look for it when I mention it.

This is all down to me repeating the same routine everyday. Using the same words every time and using a sing-song voice helps children to cue-in to you and learn what to expect.

This strategy can be absolutely magical for children on the autism spectrum.
