Why I Do What I Do

Yesterday I saw a little boy locked outside and screaming and banging at the door to be let back in. He couldn’t have been older than maybe two and half and it was heartbreaking to watch.

And I thought, this is why I blog and why I do all this free resource. It’s so that parents feel empowered to do other things and not lock their kids outside.

Sadly there’s still a lot of survivorship bias in parenting. People think well I was parented like that and I survived and I’m okay, so it must be okay. Not realising that they’re not okay. They were negatively affected by like that.

No child benefits from being locked in any space or being locked outside. I can cause lifelong psychological harm. Which is why seclusion is completely banned in our schools here.

If you are a parent need time out from your child, that’s okay. Keep them in a safe space and step away (inside with their toys, not secluded) and let them know you’re doing that.
