How to help your toddler to recognise their name
Names are like symbols.
Kids can recognise symbols before they can read.
That's why they understand things like stop signs and the big 'm' of McDonald's long before they can actually decode words - they understand the little picture (symbol) and put meaning to it.
When learning to write their name, a great place to start is to familiarise them with what their name looks like written down. All the letters together form one big symbol that'll end up looking familiar. This will in turn make it easier for them to remember and write down all the letters in their name.
Try this easy activity tomorrow. Write their name a bunch of times then fill the rest of the page with other names, preferably of other family or friends so you can also help them to learn those symbols too!!
